North Dakota America’s Coldest State

Thankfully, we won't have to worry about winter again for awhile.  (4 months anyway) but according to an article on Fox News North Dakota is America's coldest state.  I know this comes as a shock to nobody, including me who is a life long North Dakotan.  And, I spent most of my time in the state in probably the coldest major city in the state, Grand Forks.  We would often joke that Grand Forks is the "butt-crack" of North Dakota when it comes to weather.  Bismarck's winter's are a piece of cake after living in the North Eastern part of the state, believe me.

In this article North Dakota beat out Wyoming, Montana, Minnesota and Maine.  Our average temperature was 27.7 degrees Fahrenheit.  Our state also had of the lowest high temperatures, with a statewide average of 48.3 degrees in 2019.

I was kind of surprised to see South Dakota did not make the top 5 coldest list, but I'm guessing the warm weather of the Black Hills kept them out of the bottom dwellers.  Another surprise is Alaska is not in the top 5 coldest in my opinion.  I know coastal Alaska is mild, and places like Anchorage have temperatures closer to Chicago in the winter, but interior Alaska is brutal.  Fairbanks, Alaska has to be one of the coldest cities in the winter with stretches that don't go above highs of 20 below air temperature for weeks.  So cold, that cars have to be plugged in non-stop if you want your vehicle to start.

So, I don't want to hear anybody complaining about the warm weather this Summer.  In fact we could see our first 90 degree day next week possible.  Enjoy it...Another 8 months of winter is right around the corner.
