Just Because Somebody Dies Doesn’t Mean You Get Their Stuff
I really do not have a criminal mind, because I never thought of this before. Your neighbor dies and before their family goes over to claim that person's stuff...You go to their house and steal items in the home that might be valuable. Well, this just happened in Driscoll, North Dakota just east of Bismarck.
According to an article on KFYR-TV a man is accused of stealing items from the home of a man who was found dead. Our friends at Lincoln Police say a relative of the man who died noticed items missing from the home this past Friday. Luckily a neighbor noticed two men at the home of the deceased taking a lawn mower, batteries and a bag full of prescription pills. Not exactly my idea of things you need to steal.
Lincoln Police located the suspect, 61-year-old Russell Metzner from photos the neighbor had taken of the vehicle according to the article. You see, it's good to have nosy neighbors sometimes. Reportedly, other stolen items were found at the residence as well.
No foul play is expected in the man's death, but Lincoln Police are waiting on an autopsy report from the coroner to determine the man’s death. Metzner is being charged with burglary and his bond was set at $1,500.
There's a special place in HELL for people like this. Anybody who would steal from somebody who just passed away, really has no thoughts about life other than himself. I'm guessing by the value of the items he stole, he'll probably get off with not much more than a slap on the wrist. Still, what a dirt bag move.
