The Governor of North Dakota Doug Burgum made the announcement that Burleigh and Morton Counties have been upgraded to color yellow for the COVID-19 threat in the state.  In addition, North Dakota is now one of 7 states in the United States that has been put on a travel advisory list.  However, this will NOT affect school in Bismarck, Mandan and Lincoln.  For now anyway.

According to an email obtained from Bismarck Public Schools,  nothing will change.  It said that Bismarck Public Schools would like to remind Bismarck families, that they are already functioning in the moderate risk model called Hybrid or the color yellow.  Bismarck Public Schools has no intentions of any further restrictions based on the Governor Burgum’s decision.  So you could say that Bismarck and Mandan school districts were ahead of the curve by starting with the Hybrid plan.  There will also be no changes with sports or sports attendance policies at this time.

Bismarck Public Schools staff started school on August 24, 2020 and students started August 31.  During this time, they were already functioning in the Hybrid Phase PK-12 phase and have also provided an option for full distance learning.  The email went on to say that  Bismarck Public Schools intends on using Burleigh County and BPS data to make decisions for our school district.  Bismarck Public Schools in partnership with Bismarck Burleigh Public Health will continue to assess the health and safety needs of our schools in regard to COVID-19, and we will continue to require masks when 6-foot social distancing cannot be maintained.

Bismarck Public Schools will continue to monitor the health of their students and staff, and we will continue to work toward in-person instruction.
