UPDATE: Impactful Winter Storm Headed For North Dakota
Here is the latest from the National Weather Service in Bismarck concerning the winter storm that will impact the southern 2/3rds of North Dakota.
This includes all of our listening areas, including the counties of Morton, Burleigh, McLean, Oliver, Sheridan, Stark, Sioux, Kidder, McIntosh, Grant, and Emmons.
The cities impacted include Center, Hazen, Beulah, Garrison, Washburn, Underwood, Wing, Wilton, Turtle Lake, Bismarck, Mandan, Lincoln, Sterling, Steele, Dawson, Solen, Selfridge, Napoleon, Hazelton, Flasher, Elgin, Linton, Tappen, Strasburg, Wishek, and Ashley.
This winter storm is expected to affect the region from Saturday evening through Monday afternoon.
That's Saturday evening, March 23rd through Monday afternoon, March 25th. The total snow accumulations will be between 6 and 12 inches with locally higher amounts possible. The highest impacted areas are expected to be south-central North Dakota and southeast North Dakota.
Not only will heavy snow be possible, but winds could gust as high as 50 miles per hour which could create blizzard conditions. Especially in open country.
Impacts from this very strong spring storm?
Travel could be very difficult from Saturday night through Monday. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Plan on slippery road conditions that could affect your weekend travel plans. Be sure to have a winter survival kit with you if you must travel.
