A Coating to an Inch

That was the general consensus from the meteorologists days before about the snowfall event that just happened late Friday night, which wrapped up around noon Saturday. Then, there was a scramble late yesterday of the potential shift north of this narrow band of heavy snow by the weather minds to include Bismarck-Mandan. They were predicting two to five inches of light, fluffy snow. As it turns out, that was pretty close.

Bismarck in the Bullseye

Not only did we get dumped on, but it was the heaviest single-day snowfall total we have seen in 2026, according to our friends at the National Weather Service in Bismarck: 5.9 inches. That now brings our snowfall total for the entire season to 32.9 inches. It doesn't seem like we have had that much snow this winter because it has really been spaced out. Bismarck, by the way, averages 46 to 50 inches of snowfall each season. There's still a lot of potential winter weather left; heck, it's not uncommon for us to see snow in May, so we could still reach our seasonal average.
