North Dakota Holiday Travel Forecast: Snow System For Christmas?
The last couple of days have really melted the snowpack in Bismarck Mandan.
I think most of us have long forgotten about the possibility of a "white" Christmas as all of the long-range weather forecasts have been calling for a "brown" Christmas.
Well, it looks like Santa just said, "Hold my beer...I mean milk" because we might have some Christmas magic coming our way.
If you've been dreaming of a white Christmas it might just be coming our way in Bismarck Mandan just in the Saint Nick of time. According to the European weather model, the Weather Channel, and some local weather agencies we could have snow just in time for Santa to arrive on Christmas Eve.
The only problem, this system could pose some travel difficulties. Especially if it starts out as rain or freezing rain, which the American weather model is calling for. According to the Weather Channel, however, we could be looking at 2 to 5 inches of snow in the Bismarck Mandan area.
If you have travel plans, eastern North Dakota could be looking at more icy conditions with rain and freezing rain.
At this time, this is not expected to be a major winter storm but we will continue to monitor the situation.
We're still nearly a week out, so plenty of time for things to shift with this system. You just never know with snow in North Dakota this time of year as systems can drop a lot of snow in a short amount of time too.
Before this potential winter system arrives on Sunday, you can expect a warming trend of 3 days at or above 40 degrees on Thursday through Saturday.
