The Polar Vortex Is About To Rear It’s Ugly Head For North Dakota
Are you ready for colder weather?
Much colder, the kind of weather that reminds you why you love slippers and hot cocoa. Due to a forecasted La Niña winter weather pattern that is about to take hold, we've been hearing that our mild fall weather is likely to flip like a light switch. That change appears to be coming sooner rather than later. Take a look at this 10-day forecast from the Weather Channel for Bismarck.
Yikes, it looks like a brown Thanksgiving, which would typically mean warmer weather, but not this year. Starting next Tuesday, November 25th, a powerful arctic front will bring a significant wind event to North Dakota that could have your lawn furniture (I haven't put mine away yet) blowing all over the neighborhood.
This wind event will usher in much colder temps for North Dakota just in time for Thanksgiving.
We will go from high temperatures in the 40s and 50s to the 20s and teens. Overnight lows are even scarier lows in the lower teens to around zero. Brrrrr. This will send just about everything with wings screaming south for warmer weather.
There has been talk about a potential winter system for Thanksgiving weekend.
This was posted by our friends at the Bismarck Bubble yesterday, showing the potential for a snow event next week.
Still a long way out, and the weather models don't seem to agree on anything except it's going to feel like winter, not necessarily turn white outside.
Let's hope it's just the cold and there are no issues with your Thanksgiving travel plans next week. Gobble Gobble folks.
