In a move that has more questions than answers, it appears Hobby Lobby in Bismarck has sold its building.

I received a reliable tip yesterday that Hobby Lobby has sold its building to the largest medical facility with the largest net revenue in the state, Sanford.

According to Definitive Healthcare, Sanford in Fargo and Bismarck have the highest net patient revenue in North Dakota. What does that mean, well Sanford has plenty of money to spend, and it appears they are going to expand their footprint right here in Bismarck.

Now, the question remains, what becomes of Hobby Lobby in Bismarck?

A craft and art store that is beloved by so many in the Captial Region. Are they moving to a new location? If so, where? Could they be closing Hobby Lobby altogether?

It's well-documented that so many brick-and-mortar stores continue to close, mainly because of the popularity of online shopping.

Another popular craft retail store, JOANN Fabric & Crafts filed for bankruptcy and is closing multiple stores, according to USA Today. As of right now, it appears the Bismarck location is not on the closure list.

Well, good news crafters, it appears Hobby Lobby is not leaving Bismarck.

According to a store manager, Brooke Stroh, who I spoke to yesterday. She said nothing would change until after 2025, and Hobby Lobby would be moving to a different location.

Can't blame them for wanting to get out of the Gateway Mall parking lot, can you? It tends to be a little bumpy. Could Hobby Lobby end up in the vacant Kmart spot or will they end up somewhere up north? I guess time will tell.

I do find it interesting that Sanford is setting up right next to Essentia Health on the east end of Gateway Mall.

UPDATE: I just received a phone call from Chelsey Kralicek/Media Relations-Sanford and they have released the following statement.

“Sanford Health recently purchased the building at 2740 State Street in Bismarck and is leasing the space to Hobby Lobby. We have no immediate plans for the building and will share details as they become available in the future.”

-Fred Fridley, chief operating officer, Sanford Health, Bismarck
