Have you ever wondered what that "thing" was right beside the river on the Bismarck, ND side? That is a water intake system that the water treatment plant uses. There is a well below the river bed that water is taken out of. That's where our drinking water is taken from. Many people always ask me what that is and why they built it there. The city of Bismarck, ND upgraded its water system a few years ago. Click here for more details.

The water intake station is really cool to see at night if you ever get a chance to see it. I remember the city building it a few years back and I think it looks kind of cool. The construction company had to put the project on hold due to the flood of 2011. In 2012 they continued work on the water intake system. I'm not sure how far below the Missouri River bed that the well is but it's cool that they are able to tap into the water below the river. Click here for more.

Have you ever wondered what that was out on the Bismarck side of the river? If you'd like to take a look at it all you need to do is go across the Expressway Bridge or you can go to the Paddle Trap. The intake system is right across the river from the Paddle Trap. If you get the chance go look at it at night, I personally think it looks awesome at night.
