Enhanced Chance For Powerful Thunderstorms For North Dakota
Today looks like it could be a bumpy ride for virtually all of North Dakota.
According to the National Weather Service, much of North Dakota is in a Level 3 threat for severe weather, including Bismarck-Mandan, and all of our listening area. The rest of the state is in a Level 2 severe weather threat.
According to a post on the National Weather Service in Bismarck's Facebook page, everything is on the table today, including tornadoes.
Scattered thunderstorms will likely become severe over North Dakota after a warm day in the upper 80s this afternoon.
What is the timing for these potential severe storms?
According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, we have a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms between 10 am and 4 pm.
The thunderstorm chance increases to 50 percent after 4 pm, with the greatest potential for severe storms between 8 pm and 11 pm.
What are the potential impacts of these thunderstorms?
Hail the size of tennis balls, damaging winds up to 80 miles per hour, and even a tornado or two, especially along the I-94 corridor.

It would be a very good idea to be weather aware today as you start your weekend.
The rest of your weekend looks to be warm on Saturday, with highs in the Bismarck/Mandan area to be in the mid-80s. Storm chances return again on Saturday evening and early Sunday morning as a strong cold front will drop temperatures down into the low 70s on Sunday.
Those cooler temperatures will linger into the early part of next week, with expected high temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s. There will be a chance of showers for a good portion of next week.
June is typically the month we receive most of our rain in North Dakota each year.
As always, we will take it when we can get it. Hopefully, without the hail, damaging winds, or tornadoes.
