Are You Taking Your Vacation Days?
A new study finds that there is an unpleasant trend happening around the country, and I wonder if this trend hits home with many of you in Bismarck.
The study from Project Time Off reveals, many of us are giving vacation days back to our employer. In other words, you're not taking all of your vacation time. And this is timely since we're going into vacation season.
The study finds that the average worker has taken only half of their vacation time from their employer over the last 12 months, according to the survey of over 2000 workers from the job website Glassdoor. Does this sound familiar? The average worker gets 14 days’ vacation and leaves about 5 days unused, in essence giving money back to your employer.
If you're asking why this is, one word can sum it up. FEAR! According to a spokesperson for Glassdoor, the common thread is fear. Fear that no one can pick up your slack while you're out of the office, and fear of being disconnected and about 21% of the respondents say they are completely dedicated to their job. Then there is always the fear of being replaced.
In Europe, workers get as many as 30 paid days off for vacation compared to over 72% of Chinese workers, that have not taken any time off in 3 years.
If you're not taking your vacation days, you're leaving money on the table that your employer will gladly take back.
Its vacation time, you need to unwind, relax and disconnect. It's important for your health and your family.
