Another Round Of Accumulating Snow For ND Thanksgiving W-End
North Dakota will be on the northern edge of a significant snow system this Thanksgiving weekend.
This system is not expected to cause a lot of problems for us in the Peace Garden State, but much of South Dakota and southern Minnesota are in the bullseye for impactful winter weather.
How much snow are we expected to see Thanksgiving weekend?
I recently spoke with the National Weather Service in Bismarck to concerning our next snow event, which will begin on Friday and may linger into Saturday. The further south you go in the state, the higher snow totals you will see. 2 to 4 inches is a good bet for the Capital Region. You can add a couple more to that total as you get closer to the South Dakota border. The wind is not expected to be a problem with this system.
This snow will be more of the light, fluffy kind of winter snow we are used to in North Dakota, compared to the wet, heavy, round of snow we just saw, which dropped 4 to 6 inches in the Capital Region.
Expect very, very cold windchills to follow this system.
The National Weather Service in Bismarck told me we could be looking at windchills as cold as 20 below late in the weekend and into early next week, as overnight lows are expected to be below zero. A couple of more rounds of snow chances are expected next week.
