Heavy Rainfall Totals For Parts Of Central North Dakota

A good share of central North Dakota received heavy rain Monday afternoon and evening. The same system that prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Tornado Warning for the Bismarck-Mandan area from 3:19 pm to 4 pm. Initial storm reports indicated tennis ball-sized hail and caused operational issues at the Mandan oil refinery, but no direct tornado touchdowns in the immediate Capital Region were confirmed. Damaging winds were reported in Mandan that brought down some trees.

I was just returning home from a long weekend at the lake when the storm was approaching the metro. You sure could see the rotation on some of the clouds as they went over our neighborhood south of Lincoln.

Airplanes were rushing into the Bismarck Airport to try and beat the storm before it hit the city, and flying unusually low over my home.

You can expect several rounds of showers and thundershowers starting Thursday afternoon, continuing on Friday, and more chances on Saturday, which could affect your 4th of July plans. At this time, it looks like late Thursday or Friday would be our best chance for any severe storms.
