MINOT, N.D. (AP) — The female otter at Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot has died.

The otter named Cinnamon arrived at the zoo from a zoo in Massachusetts on May 6 and was placed in quarantine to be evaluated for disease and to be given time to adjust to new surroundings.

The animal became ill on May 30 and died. Officials are investigating the cause.

Cinnamon was to be put on display over the weekend, joining a male named Loki.

This is the first year the otter exhibit has been open since the 2011 Souris River flood damaged the exhibit.
