The Fargo Police Department Could be in some Hot Water

Angela Lipps, a 50-year-old mother to three grown children and 5 grandchildren, just spent nearly 6 months in jail after being misidentified by AI facial photo recognition for a well-organized bank fraud case in Fargo. The kicker? The Tennessee woman had never even been to North Dakota before. Take a look at Lipps in the first two photos below, and the woman who's actually guilty of the crime in the upper right corner.

Yes, they look similar, but the woman in the upper right-hand corner clearly looks younger to me.

Timeline of the Incident

According to a news story on WDAY TV, Lipps was arrested on July 14th, 2025, by U.S. Marshals at her home in central Tennessee with guns drawn while babysitting four young children. She then spent several months in a Tennessee jail before being flown to Fargo to be formally charged by Fargo police.

Her lawyer says charges were dismissed when her bank records proved she never left Tennessee. This happened right around Christmas, and she had no way of getting back home to Tennessee. The Fargo Police Department wouldn't even pay for her transportation back home after their mistake. The ironic thing, Lipps had never even been on a plane before being flown to Fargo by Fargo police. She eventually was driven to Chicago by a good Samaritan and then made it back home to Tennessee.

Heavy Cost for this Mistake by Fargo Police

Due to the months of jail time, Lipps lost her home, her car, and even her dog. I'm not a lawyer, but I would think this woman has a pretty iron-clad case against the Fargo Police Department and all that she has lost. I don't know about you, but I know that I have a few dopplegangers out there myself, and the use of AI photo recognition should be cross-checked if it's going to be used to jail and ruin people's lives.
