Heavy Snow Could Kick Off The Weekend For Parts Of North Dakota
Snow that may require a shovel or snow blower is coming our way.
As we head into a Super Bowl weekend, parts of North Dakota may have to dig out from a fairly potent snow event.
UPDATE: as of 2-7-25 1:30 pm
A Winter Weather Advisory and a Winter Storm Warning are now in effect for a good share of our listening area.
The Winter Storm Warning area includes the counties of Grant, Hettinger, Emmons, Sioux, Logan, and McIntosh. Cities affected by the advisory include Strasburg, Napoleon, Ashley, Linton, Hazelton, Carson, Elgin, Selfridge, Mott, Fort Yates, and Regent.
According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, 4 to 8 inches of snow could fall in this area, with isolated higher amounts right along the North Dakota and South Dakota border.
The Winter Storm Warning is on now through 9 am Saturday.
Impacts include slippery roads that could impact your Friday evening commute. Winds are not expected to be a factor with this approaching system.
You can keep track of the latest road conditions by calling 5 1 1. You can also get the latest road map from the ND Department of Transportation here.
The areas north of the Winter Storm Warning, including, Morton, Burleigh, and Kidder counties, are now in a Winter Weather Advisory until 9 am Saturday. We are expecting between 2 and 5 inches in the Bismarck Mandan Capital Region.
Following the snow this weekend, you can expect some of the coldest temperatures of the season.
Overnight lows in the Bismarck Mandan areas next week will be in the teens below zero to minus 20 with daytime highs in the single digits below zero to around zero Monday through Thursday. Be prepared to bundle up next week.
