Grab your gloves and a shovel

This Wednesday, August 11 is the annual Missouri Slope Areawide United Way Day of Caring.  From their website is the following: " The event connects the skills and resources of community-minded individuals, businesses and organizations to area nonprofits and neighbors in need. This year over 1,200 volunteers will spend the day completing projects throughout the Bismarck-Mandan community.  Due to Covid-19, projects will be safe for social distancing."

Wednesday morning volunteers will fan out across our community to complete many different projects.   Some of those projects include:

UW Homeless Shelter-Bathrooms Refresh, Wall Patches, Fence Repair  and Building Clean

Bismarck Parks and Rec- Disc Golf Course Maintenance

Linton Public School and the Park Board have a list of projects to be done.

Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch- Revitalize Grounds

Heaven's Helpers Soup Cafe-Concrete for Bike Area

Many businesses in town give their employees time off that day to volunteer.  While other businesses step up to provide lunch for all the volunteers.

Many years ago I was part of a group that added sand to the playground at the YMCA.  It was a fun day, lots of stories and laughs as we shoveled and spread that sand around.  I went home that night, tired, but my heart was full from helping give back to my community.

There is still time to get involved and  there are never too many volunteers.  If you would like to help, reach out to the United Way.  Find them on Facebook or give them a call at 255-3601.   I am sure they can find a spot for you at the Day of Caring!  Just remember to bring your gloves!
