Good news for families who are still struggling financially due to COVID-19.  It was announced recently, that the Department of Agriculture's (USDA) grant for free lunches will continue for the rest of 2020 and the remainder of the 2021 school season.  (June 30th 2021)  The previous announcement from the Department of Agriculture said the funding would continue for the rest of 2020 or until funding ran out.  This new announcement secures free meals for the rest of the school year for students.

According to a press release from the Mandan Public Schools, the Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that it will allow schools to continue serving free meals to students through the end of the 2020-21 school year.  As a result, Mandan Public Schools and Bismarck Public Schools will continue to serve all in-person students with a free breakfast and lunch; this does not include ala carte items or second servings or students in the MVA.

These free meals are only for in-person students and NOT for virtual students in Mandan.  Virtual students however in Bismarck Public Schools are eligible for the free meals. Bismarck Public Schools families that are distance learning, hybrid learning or are quarantined can receive free meals by contacting their school.

Families are still encouraged to apply for the Free and Reduced Meal Program. These applications greatly assist the district in receiving other federal funding, including Title I funding. The application can be found on the Mandan Public Schools website at https://www.mandan.k12.nd.us/child-nutrition-3c4146f8
