A Brand New Scandinavian Festival Is Coming To North Dakota
The Norsk Hostfest Shuts Down
The Norsk Hostfest in Minot, North Dakota, ended its run as North Dakota's premier Scandinavian celebration after last September's event. It was billed as North America's largest Scandinavian festival, leaning on the rich cultural heritage of the Nordic countries such as Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. The festival featured a variety of activities, including authentic food, music and dance performances, artisan crafts, cultural experiences, and of course, concerts. Norsk Hostfest was held at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds.
Rising costs and declining attendance were the factors in the decision to end the historic Scandinavian tradition after 2025. You can read more about that below.

There were rumors of a potential new Scandinavian festival that was trying to take shape late last year, and it appears it has come to fruition.
Introducing The Fjord Folk Fest
It looks like this will start as a two-day event, instead of four days, like it's predacessor, Norsk Hostfest, and it will take place at the end of August on the 21st and 22nd, 2026. Instead of the fairgrounds, this event will take place at the Minot Municipal Auditorium. According to the Facebook post, it appears this festival hopes to do many of the same things that Norsk Hostfest did every year by celebrating the Scandinavian community, heritage, and entertainment.
In the meantime, Velkommen to Minot, Fjord Folk Fest!
