Area farmers are in the fields trying to finish this years harvest. They face several challenges as that community does every year. We all know that farming is a gamble and the farmers and farm hands work very hard every year to get the crop in, make a buck just to do it all over again the following year. Some years are better than others, sometimes mother nature deals the farmers a couple of years of very bad working, harvesting and growing weather.

This picture was taken off Washington Ave. South of Bismarck. Soybeans farmers were finished with the harvest in September of last year, this year farmers are anxious to be done with the harvest. Several hurdles remain, first and foremost, the weather and secondly, many fields are still muddy due to the recent heavy rain in the area. It's a tough decision, fighting mud this fall. Some farmers doubt if they'll be able to finish the final acres of sugarbeets.  Some farmers say it's just impossible to reach the harvest in the fields and tough dealing with high moisture corn. Many farmers in the Dakota's are thinking should they spend the money on gas and try to dry it or do you leave it? Many decisions must be made in the coming weeks.

Other challenges remain such as demand on fuel.  Because of the long harvest season, there are localized propane shortages. Authorities say that propane supplies are adequate nationally but localized challenges are evident in Minnesota and the Dakotas.
