Do Conjugal Visits Happen In North Dakota Prisons?
We have a very large state penitentiary right here in Bismarck.
How large? According to the North Dakota Monitor, the state has a waiting list for male inmates. As of July 1st, 2023, it had nearly 150 more male prisoners than it had space for.
Because of this shortage of space, the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation was using a waitlist to decide who to admit to prison first after running out of beds for male inmates.
It's believed the North Dakota State Penitentiary, as of October 2024, has somewhere over 600 prisoners. This is a problem as the state's prisons have been operating above capacity for some time.
I'm just guessing, that if you were ever to go on a tour of the North Dakota State Penitentiary, that would scare just about anybody straight.
Maybe this is something we should make all children do in school. That just might keep some people on the straight and narrow.
One thing I've always wondered about is whether conjugal visits are a real thing in North Dakota prisons or jails.
In case you are not sure what a conjugal visit is. Not a term you hear every day, and it's been glamorized somewhat in Hollywood movies.
According to Wikipedia, a conjugal visit is a scheduled period between an inmate of a prison or jail to spend several hours or days with a visitor (typically a legal partner) to have sex. This practice is very common in other countries around the world, including Canada, and many European countries.
There was a time in the United States when conjugal visits were fairly common in prisons and jails. In 1993, 17 states had conjugal visit programs. It was down to 6 in 2000. By 2015, almost all states had eliminated these programs.
According to World Population Review, California was one of the first to create a program based around "contact visits", which allows inmates time with their families, instead of "private time" with their spouses as a means of forced love or procreation.
Three other states have a similar "contact visit" as California, but again, these are not intended as sexual encounters, but more as family time to hopefully rehabilitate the inmate.
To answer my earlier question: Does North Dakota allow conjugal visits?
The answer is 100% NO. My advice. Stay out of jail altogether if you want to get your freak on with your partner.
Conjugal visits are not permitted in any Federal prison as well.
