Deadline Approaches For Elk, Moose and Bighorn Licenses

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Time is running out for hunters to apply for North Dakota elk, moose and bighorn sheep licenses.

The Game and Fish Department says the deadline is Wednesday.

A total of 389 elk licenses are available for the fall hunt, along with 247 moose licenses.

A bighorn sheep season is tentatively scheduled for the fall, but it won't be finalized until after a summer population study. From two to eight licenses are usually issued in years when hunting is allowed.

Because the bighorn sheep application fee is not refundable by law, if a bighorn season isn't held this year, applicants won't receive a refund.

Elk, moose and bighorn sheep lottery licenses are issued as once-in-a-lifetime licenses in North Dakota. Hunters who have received a license in the past aren't eligible to apply for that species again.
