Winter Storm Watch For Parts Of Central & Eastern ND.

A winter storm watch has been posted for some of our listening area, including the cities of Steele & Medina.  This watch begins Friday evening through Saturday night.  Light snow is expected in central North Dakota (1-2 inches) with heavier amounts in the Red River Valley, where they could see 4 to 6 inches.  Winds will be the biggest problem with this storm as they're expected to gust up near 50 miles per hour.

If you have travel plans to the east, please have a winter survival kit with you and check road and weather conditions before you leave.

THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...For the Wind Chill Advisory, very cold wind chills.
  Wind chills as low as 45 below zero. For the Winter Storm
  Watch, blizzard conditions possible. Total snow accumulations
  of 1 to 2 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of south central and southeast North Dakota.

* WHEN...For the Wind Chill Advisory, until 3 PM CST Thursday.
  For the Winter Storm Watch, from Friday evening through
  Saturday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...For the Winter Storm Watch, plan on slippery road
  conditions and possible blocked roads from drifting snow.
  Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
  For the wind chill advisory, the dangerously cold wind chills
  could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10
  minutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and wind will
combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in frost
bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. When
outside, make sure you wear appropriate clothing.
