Winter Storm Warnings, Winter Storm Watches, and Winter Weather Advisories are all posted for all of North Dakota with the exception of extreme southwest North Dakota.

According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, most of these warnings, watches, and advisories go into effect at 6 pm Thursday evening and will continue through Friday evening at 6 pm.

This system will likely start out as freezing rain or a wintry mix this evening.  It's expected to change over to all snow on the overnight.  New ice accumulation of 0.1 is expected.  This could cause very slippery roads, especially on bridges and overpasses.  We are expecting between one and three inches of new snowfall in Bismarck by the time the storm exits southcentral North Dakota tomorrow night.  Strong winds are expected to develop Friday morning and continue throughout the day, gusting as high as 45 miles per hour out of the northwest.

Bismarck Mandan is right on the edge of the higher snowfall potential.  Kidder county just east of Burleigh county is in a Winter Storm Watch where 3 to 7 inches of snow is expected to fall.  Winter Storm Warnings cover a good share of the state from Bottineau to Jamestown and down to the South Dakota border and they extend all the way to the Minnesota border.  6 to 10 inches of snow is expected to fall in this part of North Dakota.  Travel is expected to become very difficult with winds gusting to 35 miles per hour.
