WARNING: Speed limit change you need to know about east of Bismarck.

I should've gotten a ticket the other day.  I was traveling east on County Road 10 (Main) very early one morning (I was heading out for the duck hunting opener).  I was doing my usual 5 miles per hour over (going 60 mph) when I hit the Apple Creek bridge, where the speed limit increases to 65.

So, I hit the pedal up to 70 miles per hour when I noticed a Burleigh County sheriff's truck parked near the bridge.  I didn't think anything about it as I drove by.  It wasn't long and I noticed the red lights in my rearview mirror.  A feeling that always makes your heart sink.

I said, "Good morning officer" as he approached my truck very early that morning.  He asked me if I knew that I was speeding.  I told him I thought I was pretty close to the speed limit of 65.  He told me "Nope, it's 55 now" in a stern voice.

At this point, he headed back to his truck to write me a ticket (so I assumed).  Thankfully, he came back with just a warning and told me good luck hunting.

When did this new speed limit change go into effect?

I reached out to one of my law enforcement buddies to find out what's the deal.  I'm pretty sure I didn't see a sign that said "55" to begin that stretch of highway.  Apparently, there was a sign that I missed and it changed sometime the last weekend of September.  Allegedly, due to deteriorating road conditions.

It's a pretty good bet with road construction season all but over this speed limit change won't be changing anytime soon.

For those of us who take the Menoken exit to go to Apple Valley, Lincoln, or in my case south of Lincoln, this really sucks.

The closest exit off of I94 is the Menoken exit for us.  Now, we get to poke along even more.  The speed limit does increase to 65 eastbound at the I94 intersection heading to McKenzie.

Hopefully, an exit off of 66th Street will happen sooner rather than later off of I94.

This will surely speed things up for a lot of us.
