Unveiling North Dakota’s Best-Kept Secret Destination

What is North Dakota's best-kept hidden gem?

Hmmm, what could it be?  If it's secret, it's got to be something that very few people know about, right?  The scenic bridges around Valley City, the Pembina Gorge, the Turtle Mountains, the James River Valley, the Turtle River State Park, Huff Hills, Lake Audubon, and all of its islands? Nope, none of these.

Our friends at Cheapism recently came out with an article that caught my eye, as they named "the best hidden gem destination in every state."

Let's just say their secret spot for North Dakota is NOT so secret to us North Dakotans. 

In fact, it's kind of ridiculous.  This spot is especially well known in the Capital Region, as many of us in Bismarck/Mandan camp or have lake cabins on Lake Sakakawea.

According to Cheapism, "The Best Hidden Gem Destination in North Dakota" is Lake Sakakawea State Park.

The article went on to say this about Lake Sakakawea State Park, "Top-quality fishing and hiking along a scenic trail."

To be honest, just about ALL of Lake Sakakawea is a gem. The lake itself has more shoreline than the California Pacific coast and is 180 miles long. You will also find other state parks besides Lake Sakakawea State Park on the big lake.

ND Tourism has a list of 5 things you can do to enjoy Lake Sakakawea State Park.

They include fishing (of course), boating, birding, hiking, and Garrison Power Plant tours. Sounds like something to do this weekend if you don't already have plans. Maybe take Dad fishing for Father's Day.
