Kirkwood Mall is about to add a couple of new stores this spring.  In addition to Barnes & Noble which is temporarily moving from its current location at 565 South 7th street near the Bismarck Event Center to Kirkwood Mall as well.  It's rumored that their new store which is reportedly being built right now might end up in the Kirkwood Mall too.  It could be going into the old Herberger's location, but Barns and Noble management have not confirmed that.  You can read more about Barns and Noble's move here.

The two new stores set to move into Kirkwood Mall this spring are Mama Bear Cafe and JaBomb.  Being billed as fast, tasty, and convenient.  Japanese and Chinese cuisine.  It's not known for sure but It's believed that both of these new food places in Kirkwood Mall are local establishments.  No chain restaurants could be found online anyway.

According to Wikipedia, Kirkwood Mall at 850,000 square feet is the second largest mall in North Dakota (only behind Fargo's West Acres), boasting over 90 shops. Opened in 1970, it is also the largest shopping center in the city. The mall's anchor stores are I. Keating Furniture & Flooring, Ashley HomeStore, Scheels All Sports, JCPenny, and Target.  The only anchor store that is vacant is the old Herberger's location.  However, as mentioned that might be changing in the future.

A little history about Kirwood Mall according to Wikipedia, the Wachter family built the mall (Kirkwood Plaza) in 1970.  The original Kirkwood Plaza anchor stores were Montgomery Ward, F.W. Woolworth Company, and Herbergers.
