Sneak Peek Inside The New Gateway To Science Building In Bismarck
The Gateway to Science building is a very stunning structure that is nestled along the cliffs overlooking the Missouri River in Bismarck.
Construction on this project actually began pre-COVID-19, when they broke ground back in 2019. Now, nearly 5 years later this building is almost ready to be open.
I was lucky enough to be offered a tour of this dynamic new facility by a very nice lady named Judy, who is the Marketing Director and one of the 25 employees currently employed at the Gateway to Science Building.
This new building will replace an aging 2,500 square feet of exhibit area with very limited capabilities and aging infrastructure. Meanwhile, the new Gateway to Science Building will have 13,700 square feet of gallery space.
The facility will also feature an education wing, including a laboratory classroom, two additional classrooms, and even an outdoor learning area. The building even has a wrap-around deck around three sides of the building and a breathtaking view of the Missouri River. I got to experience this firsthand myself.
The 2nd floor holds the 7,800 square-foot innovation space, to help build 21st-century skills, such as collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.
The Main Gallery areas include:
Science First, Water Play, Keep It Moving, Forces In Motion, Weather All Around Us, Growing Science, Examining You, Transforming Energy, and Sun, Earth, and Universe.
The North Dakota Gateway to Science building is located at 1810 Schafer Street and is clearly visible anywhere along I-94 when you are crossing the Missouri River.
This state-of-the-art building is set to open in March of 2023.
