Shiloh Skyhawks Upended 60-26 in Dakota Bowl 2017
At halftime, most people expected a close finish for the 2017 Dakota Bowl. Unfortunately for the Shiloh Christian Skyhawks, that wasn't the case.
Even in the first half it was a rough start for the Skyhawks who allowed a 97 yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the game.
A two point conversion put the Wyndmere- Lidgerwood Warbirds up 8-0. Fortunately for the Skyhawks, they were able to find the endzone themselves on their first offensive possession.
Jaden Mitzel completed a pass to his brother Jonas.
A two point conversion tied the game at 8.
The Warbirds picked up another couple of scores to go up 20-8. But shortly after, Shiloh was able to make it a one possession game.
Shiloh was only able to stop the Warbirds offense from scoring once the entire game. The Warbirds picked up another score in the first half and with 16 seconds left in the second quarter, the Skyhawks again made it a one possession game.
Shiloh down just one score at the half was in good position especially because they started the second half with the ball.
Unfortunately as the Skyhawks marched towards the endzone, running back Canaan Fagerland fumbled the ball just outside the ten yard line.
It was all downhill from there. The Skyhawks ended up turning over the ball four times in the game. That along with a few of the Shiloh players getting banged up led to a disastrous second half.
Late in the fourth quarter, Shiloh found the end zone one more time, but it was too little too late.
At that point, the Skyhawks trailed 53-26. The Warbirds would end up scoring one more time to make it 60-26.
The 60 points by the Warbirds set a Dakota Bowl Record for points in a 9-man game. The previous record was 55 points put up by Hazen in 2012.
Wyndmere/Lidgerwood's Luke Foertsch, who had the opening kickoff return for a touchdown, also rushed for four additional touchdowns and had one pass reception touchdown.
His six touchdowns tied a Dakota Bowl record.
Wyndmere-Lidgerwood had a total of 533 offensive yards compared to Shiloh's 361.
Shiloh's Canaan Fagerland who had 5 touchdowns last week rushed 27 times for 136 yards.
