There’s Been A Shift In This Weeks Winter Event In North Dakota
Maybe the non-stop flight of geese over the Capital Region the last couple of weeks knows something more than any meteorologist. Numerous weather agencies have been pointing to a traditional Colorado low that could leave North Dakota frozen in its tracks, including Bismarck-Mandan, with our heaviest snow of the season this week.
The Heaviest Snow has Shifted North
According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck and our friends at the Bismarck Bubble, the greatest impact of this winter snow event is north of Highway 200. The likelihood of 2-plus inches of snow in the Capital Region is somewhere between 40 and 70%, and the likelihood of 6-plus inches of snow is very unlikely at 10 to 40%. Here's a look at that breakdown from the National Weather Service.
This will start out as rain on Tuesday afternoon in the Bismarck-Mandan area, before this system turns over to snow sometime during the overnight. There will likely be some minor impacts for your commute on Wednesday morning with snow and blowing snow.
The Best Chance for a 6-Plus-Inch Snow
The heaviest snow bands will be along the Highway 2 corridor from Minot to Devils Lake, over to Grand Forks.
The Capital Region will have a couple more chances for snow through Thursday with an additional clipper system. Nope, winter is definitely not done yet, but it appears this Colorado low that was hyped as being measured in feet rather than inches will be much ado about nothing.
In the meantime, enjoy two more very April-like spring days coming our way.
