Severe Weather Saturday

According to the Storm Prediction Center/National Weather Service, it could be a bumpy ride in North Dakota this weekend, and especially Saturday in Western and Central North Dakota. Not good news if you're in town for the McQuades Softball Tournament. Things could be a little soggy on the diamonds. Here is the latest map from the Storm Prediction Center.

Timing and Impacts

Bismarck-Mandan, Minot, Dickinson, and Williston are all in the crosshairs of this potential system on Saturday. According to the National Weather Service, moderate instability will fuel storms that will likely begin late Friday evening and continue overnight. More storms are expected to redevelop on Saturday afternoon.

Additionally, there is some supercell threat with these storms in North Dakota, which supports the environment for very large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes.

Rain Potential for North Dakota

Showers and storms (non-severe) are expected late tonight and Friday morning. Thunderstorms could produce heavy rain on Saturday, with additional chances for showers and storms on Sunday and Monday.

Much warmer weather is expected to move in next week, with 90s making their return for us as we head into the 4th of July weekend. There is talk of a potential dry spell for the Northern Plains for much of July as El Niño takes hold. I guess we will take the precipitation while we can get it.

Be weather aware on Saturday and keep your family safe.
