Ladies, a guy you don't know at a bar approaches you and asks if he can buy you a drink?  Something that's been going on for many, many years.  Nothing new right?  When he brings the drink to you, how do you know it wasn't laced with a drug that may cause you to lose your ability to fight back or even remember what happened?  Sexual assault drugs or "date rape" drugs are getting more and more common across the country and even right here in North Dakota.

According to a article on Valley News Live, Fargo police are investigating 4 cases of drugged drinks at four different bars across Fargo.  All four of these cases have happened since the start of the new year and 3 of them have been in March alone.  One of these incidents just took place this past weekend to a woman who says she was out with a girlfriend and ended up going to the hospital.  Police say none of the incidents involved a bartender drugging a customer.  None of the bars were named in the article, as police say this could happen anywhere, anytime.

Police urge you to be watchful and aware of your drinks at all times when you go out. Be sure to have somebody watch over your drink if you end up walking away from it.  If you do see somebody drugging a drink, tell the bar staff immediately and report it to the authorities.

The most common drugs used in these situations are gamma hydroxybutric acid (GHB), Rohypnol, ketamine and Ecstasy.  According to Just Think Twice, a person who sexually assaults another person uses these drugs because, they're tasteless, odorless and colorless.  These drugs also leave the system quickly, so it may be too late to test for the drugs.

PLEASE, think twice before you let any stranger buy you a drink.  At the very least, watch the whole process at the bar, right up until he hands you the drink.
