FARGO, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota farmers intend to plant less spring wheat and more corn and soybeans this year.

The Agriculture Department says in its prospective plantings report that North Dakota spring wheat acres are projected at 5.7 million, down 15 percent from 2015. Durum wheat acres are pegged at 1.2 million, up 10 percent.

Soybean acres are estimated at 5.9 million, up 3 percent, and corn acres at 3.4 million, up 24 percent. The soybean acres would tie the state's 2014 record.

The report shows that North Dakota farmers also intend to plant more hay, canola, sunflowers, dry peas, lentils, sugar beets and oats, but less barley, dry beans and flaxseed.
