New Roller Rink In Steele, North Dakota Is Ready To Roll
When was the last time you put on a pair of rollerskates?
Some of you may have fond memories of class trips to your local roller rink back in the day. Yes, I know, I'm dating myself a bit. Trying to get up enough courage to ask that person you had a crush on to skate on a couple's dance? The feeling you had holding their hand as you skated by your friends watching on. Oh, the butterflies.
That used to be a common scenario in the 80s and 90s in many North Dakota cities.
However, the roller rinks pretty much went the way of the drive-in movie theaters, pagers, and Blockbuster Video stores. They began to vanish across the North Dakota prairie.
I decided to do a quick Google search to see if I could find any existing roller rinks in North Dakota.
I know of one at Stump Lake Pavillion but to my knowledge, it's seldom used as a roller rink and it's more a wedding dance venue. I found one in Fargo and a couple of other ones across the state, but I'm not sure if they're still operational.
Now, we have a brand NEW roller rink coming to North Dakota and not too far from Bismarck Mandan.
MAD Moves Roller Rink in Steele, North Dakota is set to open up this Saturday, April 8th. The owner Lindsay Goodman Dammel told me the hours of operation will be as follows:
Monday, Tuesday & Thursday will be from Noon to 7 pm.
Friday & Saturday will be from Noon to 10 pm.
Closed on Wednesdays & Sundays.
I for one and looking forward to dusting off my rollerblades and reliving my youth. I might even muster up enough guts to ask somebody special to skate on a couple's skate. We all wish MAD Moves all the best in their new venture.
