Minot Cemetery Hosts Wreaths for Vets

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Volunteers have placed over 360 wreathes on gravestones and markers for military veterans in the first Wreathes Across America ceremony in Minot.

KXMC-TV reports roughly 200 people volunteered with Minot's American Legion Post 26 for the weekend ceremony.

The nonprofit organization aims to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony that began at Arlington National Cemetery in 1992. Thousands of locations across the country are involved in the effort to recognize military veterans with a wreath.

Coordinator Richard Reuer says the Rosehill Memorial Cemetery is a symbol of honor and thankfulness. The wreaths will stay on display through Jan 2. Reuer says organizers will hold the Minot ceremony again next year after the American Legion surpassed its fundraising goal for the event this year.
