According to a Press release from the Mandan Police, an officer was involved in a shooting Tuesday afternoon in the city.

The shooting took place just after 3 pm Tuesday ( Oct 9th) in the SE area of Mandan.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound.

No officers were injured during the shooting. The officer will be placed on administrative leave which is standard practice for the department. The name of the officer or the victim was not made available to the public.

The Mandan Police also stress there is no danger to the public. The ND Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation.

Update 10/10, 11:30 am, Press release from Mandan Police Department

On October 9th, 2018 Mandan Police officers along with officers from the Metro Area Narcotics Task Force were working together to locate a 26-year-old male who is a Bismarck/Mandan resident. He was wanted on numerous warrants.

The male was observed in a vehicle in Frontier Trailer Park in SE Mandan. Mandan Police initiated a traffic stop of that vehicle on South Frontier Trail near 6th Ave SE. Shortly after, a Mandan Police Officer discharged their handgun and the 26-year-old male was struck by gunfire and injured. Officers on scene secured the male and immediately began rendering first aid until paramedics arrived. The male was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for injuries.

The ND Bureau of Criminal Investigations is conducting the criminal investigation of the shooting. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave according to Mandan Police Department Policy.
