Getting your kids prepared to go back to school can be a difficult task. Parents are shopping for new clothes, school supplies, and other odds and ends. All of this adds up very quickly. Now, Grand Forks families have to fork out even more money due to a $4.4 million deficit the school district currently faces.

Bus Rider Fees Return

According to Inforum, families will soon have to pay a hefty fee in order for their kids to ride school buses in the 2026-2027 school year. Parents will now have to pay a whopping $525 per student for transportation to and from school. The source says this essentially breaks down to $1.50 per ride.

At this time, it's unknown whether parents will be expected to pay the entire fee up front at the beginning of the year or whether payment plans will be available. The source says that some of the school district's business managers are discussing an ID option in which students are charged per ride when getting on/off the bus by scanning their IDs.

These changes will likely create a stir within the Grand Forks community, as many families may not be able to afford these fees.
