Whatever happened to the days when you dreaded the thought of going into the NDDOT?

That was certainly the case with me when I lived in San Diego - Years ago I remember putting off everything I possibly could until the last moment. When my license plate tags expired, there I was at 7:57 in the morning waiting in line JUST to get inside the awful building - and THEN after I grabbed a number - like for instance 87, I sat in uncomfortable plastic chairs and watched the clock -as the board above me ticked off the numbers - 02, 03, 04 05...comparable to the Chinese water torture technique. I am excited to tell you those days are long gone!

Today was the 2nd day I glided into the NDDOT building

I knew that the time to get your REAL ID was drawing near, so I went online and made an appointment for myself last week - my mistake in not being prepared, I failed to have all the necessary documents - ( Birth certificate etc ) - so no sweat, I hopped online again and made another appointment for this afternoon. For all of you who haven't been to the NDDOT OR the DMV ( where I'm from ) disregard any rotten experiences you've had - it is a real joy to be treated with such outstanding customer service.

Karla and Casey were through the glass windows as I sat down

I walked back into the NDDOT, greeted the Kiosk with a smile, and followed the prompts to check in - within 10 seconds after I was issued number 282, I was called to Window 2. Karla was her name - she politely listened to my opening chatter, and I warned her that she had probably never in her over a year working there, seen such a ghastly driver's license photo ( my hat hair sticking straight up to the moon ) - this time I was ready to go through all the motions of getting a REAL ID. The haunting part was upon me though, Karla told me I would have to pose for another picture - ahh the horror.

"I'll give you a minute to go around the corner and fix your hair..."

That she did...I thanked her for that opportunity -and looked right at the sloth holding a coffee cup ( this little guy looked 1,000 times more handsome than myself ) as she snapped my new photo.

I will spare you the shock and awe of letting you see my pic. This whole 10 minutes or so I spent with Karla really impressed me - "I like proving that we are not such bad people" she said - Casey agreed - they sit right next to each other helping people all day.

My reward for getting my REAL ID was sitting next to a local celebrity in town

Host and Producer at Studio 701  Katie Varga - she was warm, charming, and polite. I asked her about her experiences with NDDOT - "Everyone is always extremely nice and welcoming - they make the process seem easy" - She said it perfectly. The bottom line from this story is - "NEVER FEAR NDDOT"  :)
