Times are tough...tougher for some more than others.

Have you ever driven by some massive mansions and wondered: "Who lives there and what do they do for a living!?"

Of course, you have! We've all driven by these homes and pictured ourselves standing on their balconies sipping hot coffee, or laid out by the pool drinking something fruity with a little paper umbrella sticking out the top.

We've imagined what it would be like trying to clean their massive windows and how much walking the families that live there have to do just to get from one side of the house to the other.

Have you ever seen someone buy the most expensive thing in a store without batting an eye?

I have, and the jealousy is real.

I went down quilted the rabbit hole and decided I needed to know how many people live in affluence in North Dakota

Crunching The Numbers

Stacker looked at data from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). They looked at the total number of tax returns filed in each state, returns with an adjusted gross income of one million dollars or more, then calculated the rate of million-dollar earners.

How Many Millionaires Live In North Dakota?

In North Dakota, there were 371,950 tax returns filed in the year 2019.

There were a total of 1,020 tax returns filed with an adjusted gross income of $1 million or more.

The source calculated the rate of million-dollar earners to be 27.4 out of 10,000 returns.

Can you believe there are more than 1,000 North Dakotans making $1 million or more?

States With The Most Millionaires

If you're wondering which state has the most millionaires, it's none other than California. There were more than 94,000 people with an adjusted gross income of more than one million dollars.

New York came in second for most millionaires with 55,00, then Texas followed in third with 47,000 millionaires.
