HGTV knows a thing or two about charm.

I enjoy watching their fixer-up shows and other programming they have to offer the do-it-yourself kind of guy that I am.

An article from HGTV caught my eye recently, "The most charming small-town in each state".

Their definition of charm would be the hidden gems in each state.  The towns with quaint shops and restaurants, fascinating histories, fun experiences, and natural beauty.

That pretty much sums up one town in North Dakota completely.  I'm guessing you have it figured out too by now.

Before I spill the beans on the obvious choice for North Dakota, let's run down the most charming small town in our neighboring states.

South Dakota: Yankton!  Located on the Missouri River and along the Missouri River Recreation Area.  Plenty of parks to explore and water sports to keep you busy.

Minnesota: Park Rapids!  The gateway to the headwaters of the Mississippi River. Thousands of area lakes and a great resort town.

Montana: Whitefish!  Named one of the top 25 ski towns in the world.  Also, located close to Glacier National Park.

And that brings us to the MOST charming town in North Dakota: Medora!

HGTV went on to say that Medora will help you find your inner cowboy (or cowgirl).  Medora has old west charm, the Medora Musical, and of course the Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

I couldn't agree more.  We have many charming towns in North Dakota.  Bismarck, Linton, and Garrison, just to mention a few, but Medora is the best of the best.  Tough to argue that.  Wait a minute, I'm sure there's a Karen or two that will.

The 10 Smallest Towns in North Dakota for 2024!

LOOK: Here are the best lake towns to live in

Many of the included towns jump out at the casual observer as popular summer-rental spots--the Ozarks' Branson, Missouri, or Arizona's Lake Havasu--it might surprise you to dive deeper into some quality-of-life offerings beyond the beach and vacation homes. You'll likely pick up some knowledge from a wide range of Americana: one of the last remaining 1950s-style drive-ins in the Midwest; a Florida town that started as a Civil War veteran retirement area; an island boasting some of the country's top public schools and wealth-earners right in the middle of a lake between Seattle and Bellevue; and even a California town containing much more than Johnny Cash's prison blues.
