Valentine's Day is a Week From Saturday

It's a day for lovers and also "Single Awareness Day" if you are currently lacking female or male companionship. It's a Hallmark holiday to many, something created by the greeting card companies to make poor saps like me feel obligated to show a token of appreciation for the loves in our lives. It's funny, I have a house decorated on my block for Valentine's Day, that looks like a Victoria's Secret just opened up in my neighborhood.

In my opinion, flowers die, greeting cards get discarded, and those expensive restaurant dinners ruin the mood when you get the check. I'm sorry, do I sound like somebody who's a bit jaded when it comes to the whole game of love? No, I'm actually a romantic at heart, but also a realist.

What's really ironic, if you are going through a rough patch with your significant other, I can guarantee you that whatever you have been asking for in your relationship, the second you split, your ex will begin working on what you asked for. I've seen it time and time again. By the way, according to what data you look at, the divorce rate in North Dakota is 44 to 50%, which is pretty good, comparatively speaking.

Just How Happy are North Dakota Couples?

As it turns out, pretty darn happy, according to an article on ComparetheMarket, North Dakota couples are the 4th-happiest couples in the United States. What makes the Peace Garden State such a lovefest?  Well, first off, the data used to come up with this list was based on marriage and divorce rates, life expectancy, happiness scores, and relationship-related search behaviour across all 50 states. Sounds pretty legit to me.

Why did North Dakota score so High?

Our lower divorce rate, combined with a higher life expectancy rate and a strong overall happiness score, pushed us to near the top of the charts. Only Iowa, South Dakota, and Hawaii are ahead of us when it comes to happiness for couples.

As it turns out, maybe North Dakota is for lovers. Crap, now I have to go buy a Valentine's card.
