This hits home for me since I grew up in Louisiana. Born in Mamou, LA ( pronounced Ma'moo) in the heart of Cajun Country, Newman joined the Opry in 1956. He last performed on the Opry stage on June 6th with his band. While growing up in South Louisiana, Newman help support his family by working on the family farm. He formed his own band and became a regional star while performing in area clubs and fairs then on to The Louisiana Hayride before hitting the national scene. His mixture of Country and Cajun music was an instant success. Back home, he was simply known as "Jimmy C".

A public service will be help on June 25th at the Ryman Auditorium for Jimmie C. Newman.
