Gov. Kristi Noem Banned From North Dakota Reservation

Kristi Noem is considered to be on Donald Trump's shortlist as his running mate for this year's 2024 presidential election.

Noem, who is the South Dakota Governor has been in the news of late for controversial comments made at two town hall meetings, alleging some tribal leaders are personally benefiting from Mexican drug cartel activity on reservations. This has rubbed several South Dakota tribes the wrong way, according to the North Dakota Monitor.  

This has caused her to be banned by the Ogalala Sioux Tribe back in February, and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe just recently.  Overall, five tribes have demanded an apology from Governor Noem.

The South Dakota Tribes have not received an apology yet, but Noem did issue a press release calling on the tribes to “banish the cartels.”

Now, Governor Kristi Noem has been banned from North Dakota's Standing Rock Reservation.

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is headquartered in North Dakota but the reservation borders expand into South Dakota.

This is now the third tribal nation to ban Governor Kristi Noem from tribal lands this year.

Tribal Chairwoman Janet Alkire said in a news release, "Governor Kristi Noem's wild and irresponsible attempt to connect tribal leaders and parents with Mexican drug cartels is a sad reflection of her fear-based politics that do nothing to bring people together to solve problems."

Kristi Noem was previously banned back in 2019 from the Pine Ridge Reservation after signing two bills into law regulating protests over the Keystone XL pipeline.
