Could We Be Looking At A “Brown” Christmas In North Dakota?
We just finished up with a "brown" Thanksgiving in North Dakota.
Those are pretty rare in North Dakota. We did get a quick shot of a dusting of snow on Saturday night but any flakes remaining will all be gone in the next few days. We have plenty of 40-degree days coming our way over the next week. In fact, it looks downright balmy as we head into December.
How warm? How about a lot of 40s and upper 30s for high temperatures coming our way in early December?
Even high temperatures above the freezing mark look likely up until Christmas. That is AMAZING. Especially after the cold and snowy winter, we had last year.
Will we have a "white" Christmas in Bismarck, Mandan, and Lincoln?
Okay, so high temperatures are going to be above freezing, but it will certainly be cold enough for snow at night correct? This is true, but looking at the long-range forecast from Accuweather, we have virtually no precipitation in the forecast.
It's tough to have a white Christmas if it doesn't snow right? A month is a long way out, and things could certainly change, but at least according to Accuweather, Bismarck and a good share of North Dakota could indeed have a brown holiday.
That certainly isn't going to make everyone happy, (including me) I would like some snow for Christmas, just not mountains of snow like we had last year. And, it's always nice to have no travel difficulties over the holidays. Unlike last year, when I couldn't even go home to see my family in Minneapolis due to storms and icy roads.
One thing that is fabulous about this forecast. This is looking like a short winter season.
Not good news for snowmobile enthusiasts, skiers, or people who do enjoy the snow. I guess after 100-plus inches of snow last year, I for one, don't mind taking a year off from snow.
