Chilling details of a kidnapping in Mandan right out of a movie last night

According to a press release from Mandan police a Mandan woman was kidnapped at knifepoint late Thursday night and held against her will until early this morning on March 18th.

Mandan police received a call from a woman that had locked herself in the bathroom at a local gas station.  Upon arrival, an officer spoke with the 28-year-old old woman.  She told police she had been staying at a friend's home.  The suspect, a 26-year-old woman had also been staying there.

The victim went on to tell the officer that earlier in the evening, the suspect forced her into a pickup, where they drove to a location in a neighboring county.  The suspect picked up a relative and returned to Mandan.  The victim asked numerous times to leave.  The suspect held a knife to her throat and refused to let her go.

The victim saw an opportunity and went for it

When the women arrived back in Mandan, they stopped at a gas station.  The victim found an opportunity to escape from the pickup.  She made a break for it and raced to a bathroom inside the gas station.  She locked herself in the gas station bathroom and called 911.  She gave a description of the vehicle she was being held in to the officers.

An officer located the vehicle a short time later.  The officer activated his emergency lights in the area of 3rd Ave and East Main.  A high-speed chase took place down westbound on Main street.  Morton County Sheriff's deputies pursued the vehicle westbound at10th Avenue and West Main.  Eventually, the vehicle struck a street sign and left the roadway.  The driver fled on foot.

After a short search, they found the suspect

Mandan Police K9 Kupper tracked the suspect and she was eventually found hiding in a barrel in the year of a home.  Officers took the suspect into custody.

The suspect, Tyann Bavebull, was arrested for Felonious Restraint, Terrorizing, Kidnapping, Simple Assault, and more.  Formal charges are pending.
