Bismarck Public Schools To Demolish Houses For Parking Lot
According to the Bismarck Tribune, four houses across the street from Bismarck High School are being demolished and turned into a parking lot. The school lost some parking spaces due to the auditorium addition that was added onto the school. The school regained those lost spots by converting a grassy area into a new parking lot.
The First Lutheran Church approached the district about the possible sale of two houses they owned. The district was then approached by an estate of a home on the same block as the other two houses. The district then approached the final land owner, who said they would sell. The houses are between the First Lutheran Church and East Avenue E on the west side of North 7th Street.
The houses and what they sold for are 818 North 7th Street and 822 North 7th Street for $100,000 each, 828 North 7th Street for $165,000, and 824 North 7th Street for $150,000. The estimate of demolishing and turning the land into a parking lot could approach $300,000. The parking lot will be used for teachers during the day and anyone attending events at the school at night or on the weekends.
