Coldest Weather Of The Winter So Far Is Coming To ND This Week
Is it Cold Enough for You Yet?
Happy Martin Luther King Day to everyone in the Capital Region. I was just saying to my son yesterday that it seems like it's always bone-chilling cold on MLK Day, and that is the case again this morning, as we woke up to temperatures in the single digits below zero in Bismarck.
The Coldest Weather of the Winter So Far is Coming this Week
We are getting into the heart of the winter weather after a very mild fall, and a pretty easy start to winter with numerous 40-degree days so far. As always, we usually tend to pay for any reprieve we get from winter, and that looks to be coming this week for North Dakota.

After a couple of chances of snow this week (no big storms), it appears old man winter is ready to take hold about Thursday in North Dakota. Check out these overnight lows for Bismarck-Mandan starting Thursday, January 22nd.
Overnight lows down to as low as minus 20 starting Thursday night, with a sub-zero high of only minus 7 on Friday. It's expected to be even colder for the eastern part of the state. Fargo and Grand Forks will see overnight lows around 25 below on Thursday night with sub zero highs around 10 below on Friday, and 5 below on Saturday.
A Mini Polar Vortex
The good news? It looks like we will moderate significantly here in the Capital Region by the end of the month with high temperatures flirting with 30 ABOVE zero.
So, put another log on the fire, and hunker down. It's going to actually feel like winter for a while. I mean, after all, it is January.
