Law Enforcement wants you to be aware of a dangerous trend happening at gas stations in North Dakota and around the country.

This new wave of crime is called "SLIDERS" and what's even more terrifying is that it tends to target women and the elderly.

After speaking to one of the Capital Region's finest police officers, he assured me that "sliders" is a thing, even here in North Dakota and he explained to me how it works.

It's actually a pretty simple concept, criminals prey upon the most vulnerable while filling up at the pump.

While you are pumping gas outside of your car, another vehicle will pull up next to you in their getaway car. Since so many people don't lock their vehicles while pumping their gas it's actually a pretty easy steal.

The crook will grab a purse or anything else of value from the front passenger door while you have your back turned to the situation. If you keep your car running while you are filling up (which I tend to do) the crooks may even steal your car too.

Here's a video of "Sliders" working in tandem and how the heist works.

Scary stuff, in the blink of an eye, you could lose your valuables or even your vehicle. It's my experience that many women have a bad habit of leaving their purses in plain sight in the front seat while filling up.

An easy fix for this crime is not to stay outside while filling up your vehicle. Once the pump is going get back into your car and make sure your doors are locked. It's that simple.

Don't let "sliders" ruin your day and steal your valuables while pumping gas.

You have been warned.
