5 Fixings Found On A North Dakota Hot Dog
If you hadn't gotten the memo, saw a social media post or read your National Day Calendar... drumroll please... Today is National Hot Dog Day! AND there is no way you can grow up in North Dakota without having had a Cloverdale Hot Dog!
Why all the fuss? Because here in North Dakota an excellent hot dog first is the essential part to make it to our plates! The fixings are just "decoration". A GOOD hot dog can be eaten plain or on a bun with a little magic!
1. Ketchup Only
Perfectly acceptable!! BEC has been known to toss back easily more than a few grilled... or shall we say burnt and on a white bun! Her love for ketchup is off the charts!
2. Sauerkraut & Spicy Brown Mustard
Neither of us are fans of this delicacy, even if raised with strong Germans from Russia roots... But we only feel fair to warn one that this will be found in North Dakota. Wieners and Sauerkraut, is a Germans from Russian cuisine dish typical of the Dakotas! Head to the town of Wishek, North Dakota for Saurkraut Day held yearly on the 2nd Wednesday in October... dating back to 1925. Can't make that date, check local church activities; wieners and sauerkraut is often a church fundraiser in North Dakota!
3. Chilli, Cheese, Sweet Onions & Jalapenos
Tigger's favorite right here... some might say a Chili Dog!! He will take his hot dog not burnt, grill marks are fine, but he wants to know it is still a hot dog!! Oh and don't forget the crinkle-cut fries for this guy!
4. Mexican! Salsa, Cheese, Jalepenos, Guacamole & Crushed Tortilla Chips
Who doesn't like a party in the mouth... And it doesn't have to be Cinco De Mayo to enjoy this one! Add this fun American favorite hot dog to your next taco bar! The kids will love it!
5. Chicago Style With A Twist!
All the typical Chicago Style fixings... or decorations of tomato wedges, a dill pickle spear, a couple of sport peppers, sweet green pickle relish, a dash of celery salt, and of course the yellow mustard... But here's where it gets REAL GOOD... Drizzle a little of your favorite BBQ sauce!
