Winter Storm Update For Bismarck and The Region
The National Weather Service has updated the predictions for the anticipation of the winter storm that will effect the area, late Sunday and lasting through Tuesday.
The NWS has been advertising the threat of a winter system all week, now since the Bismarck area is in a 24-48 hour window, the NWS have narrowed in on their predictions.
A majority of the state is under the influence of a WINTER STORM WATCH, in effect Sunday night through Tuesday.
Depending on where you are or where your travels will take you, will depend on the effects you'll experience with this late winter system.
Area north, and west will receive the brunt of the larger amounts of snow. Locally, for the Bismarck-Mandan area, we'll experience more rain and sleet with the start of this system, Sunday.
Minot and the north regions will receive more snow with the arrival of this system. Locally, our temperatures will be too warm, where we will get more rain and sleet, changing into snow later Sunday evening.
Heavy snow and near blizzard conditions may develop, possibly resulting in dangerous to impossible travel. A moderate to high risk of at least 8 inches of total snowfall exists for all except in portions of southwest, far southern, and eastern North Dakota.
Originally, the early predictions were between 12-14 inches locally, but has now been backed off a bit to 4-8 inches.
With the amount of rain the Bismarck area will receive as this system approaches, you can expect a very heavy or wet snow with this storm.
Stay with Townsquare Media on line and on the air for updates as we continue to follow the developments of this late winter storm.
Stay weather ready as this storm may be upgraded to a warning, from the current watch.
